Nearly-weds are increasingly seeking ethical, eco-conscious, and meaningful accessories that align with their values, rarely settling for off-the-peg. In 2025, sustainable wedding accessories and jewellery are more than a trend - they're a statement. Read on to discover why they're so popular, how I craft them mindfully in Devon, and how easy it is to start your bespoke journey today.

Love in Harmony with the Earth

Weddings are no longer only about beauty - they’re about beliefs. A recent report found that nearly 80% of couples are looking for eco-friendly wedding options, with 55% keen to offset their wedding’s carbon footprint. The rise of sustainable wedding accessories and jewellery makes perfect sense in a world where conscious weddings are becoming the norm.

What Does Ethical & Sustainable Accessories and Jewellery Mean To Me?

For me, “ethical” isn't a buzzword - it’s a practice embedded in every choice:

  • I use UK-made recycled wire and materials from independent UK suppliers.

  • I often rework broken or unloved costume jewellery, either mine or yours, giving items new purpose.

  • I source responsibly: occasionally using sourced gemstones from abroad, but offsetting carbon by planting trees and shrubs in our food forest.

  • My keepsake packaging is UK-made, recycled, recyclable. My will reuse bubble-wrap (I never buy new) or choose recyclable materials for posting.

  • I work from a solar-powered studio in Devon, with zero daily commuting.

  • I make to order only, reducing waste, and de-stash my leftover materials online or create unique one-offs for markets.

  • Any offcuts of wire or metal is kept for recycling

These are not lofty ideals - they’re my daily crafting commitments.

Responsibly Sourced Materials

I choose to source my materials from UK makers and suppliers. Many 'jewellers' buy cheap components from overseas and simply assemble them - but these low prices often come at a cost: poor wages, unethical labour, and low safety standards.

By choosing UK-made or UK-sold materials, I can trust in better practices. UK laws provide important safeguards for workers and materials alike. I also support local, independent businesses - not only to reduce carbon emissions but to keep money circulating in our creative economy.

They may not be the cheapest - but they’re consciously chosen.

In 2025, couples aren’t just buying accessories - they’re investing in values. 75% of engaged couples consider sustainability when planning, and 55% are happy to pay more for eco-conscious options. Jewellery is becoming a conscious choice that reflects love stories, not just aesthetic desires.

The Magic of Reworked Materials

Alongside my made-to-order collection, I also create one-of-a-kind pieces using reworked materials - often vintage or broken costume jewellery. These designs evolve from the materials themselves, taking on unique forms with additional beadwork and embellishments.

They are truly one of a kind - impossible to recreate.

Each accessory carries a sense of sustainability and personal narrative. I love the idea that these pieces hold the energy of their previous story - and my role is to craft the next chapter.

Sustainable Style Without Compromise

My clients often come to me because they want something different, something that reflects their personality rather than ticking a traditional wedding box. Whether you're into fantasy, gothic, boho, celestial, vintage or something totally your own, my goal is always the same: to help you show up as your full, authentic self on your wedding day.

It doesn't matter if you are planning a large scale luxury wedding or having a small intimate green wedding; you deserve jewellery made with sustainable materials, crafted through eco friendly practices to an exceptional standard. Every design, whether made-to-order, bespoke, or one-of-a-kind, is crafted with the same care and attention to detail. I thoroughly check all materials, replace stones where needed, and ensure that any pre-loved elements are in perfect condition. Nothing leaves my studio unless it meets my high standards for both beauty and durability.

“I would highly recommend any bride to be to have a beautiful piece of jewellery designed by Janie. I had the most stunning vintage headpiece and earrings made for my special day. Janie really understood the look and design I was hoping for. When I saw the pieces they were even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I will forever cherish them and I am so grateful to Janie. It was an amazing service from start to finish.” April

Luxury and ethics are not mutually exclusive. You can absolutely have both.

What Makes My Approach Different

Here’s what sets me, and your order apart:

  • UK-made recycled wire and independent British suppliers - supporting local makers

  • Made-to-order design ensures no mass production, no excess

  • Creative reuse: leftover materials are either sold or reimagined

  • Eco-friendly packaging: no unnecessary wrap, just reclaimed or recyclable materials

  • Solar-powered studio at home, with zero commuting emissions

  • Recycling waste

When you commission a bespoke piece, you're supporting sustainable craftsmanship from start to finish.

Personal Stories Woven In

As well as my made-to-order and one-of-a-kind collections, I offer a bespoke service -reworking and reimagining sentimental items. This has ranged from broken brooches belonging to a passed grandma, pearl necklaces that belonged to a never-forgotten mother, and reworking tiaras worn on the wedding day of a happy marriage. Each piece that uses cherished family items is an honour to create - carefully weaving the story of the past into your future.

“Janie is the most talented, kind and amazing jewellery designer. I inherited an opal necklace from my Grandma and always dreamt of having them placed in a hair comb for my wedding day. After looking through photos and chatting to Janie I knew she was the right person to create this bespoke piece for me. After a few Zoom meetings, Janie designed a stunning set of hair combs incorporating the opals perfectly. She was able to bring what I thought might be a dream to reality. Thank you so much, what you've created really was beyond what I could have dreamt of and I am so grateful.” Emma

Example:

Converting Grandma's Heirloom Diamond Brooch into a Back Chain

When Lucy got in contact to say she wanted her grandmother's moon brooch reworked into a back chain for her wedding, I was thrilled. The stunning brooch was a true antique, made with gold, silver, and real diamonds. She was happy for me to cut it up, but instead I suggested keeping the structure of the brooch and simply removing the fastenings and adding to it.

Once the pin was removed and the back of the brooch smoothed, I added sterling silver chains which I beaded with Swarovski crystals and pearls. Clasps were added to each end so it could be fastened discreetly to the inside of her dress. Any gold that was removed was returned to Lucy—and I know that later, she reused it in a commission with a goldsmith.

Caring for Your Sustainable Accessories and Jewellery After the Wedding

Your piece is meant to be loved long beyond your special day:

  • Avoid perfume or hairspray - use a soft cloth for cleaning

  • Store gently in soft pouches or boxes

  • Metallic hues may mellow with wear - that natural patina adds character

  • Your piece can become a cherished family heirloom or signature everyday accessory

FAQs

What makes wedding accessories and jewellery eco friendly?

Eco friendly wedding accessories and jewellery is made using materials and methods that minimise environmental impact. I use recycled metals, UK-sourced supplies, and solar power in my studio, along with recyclable or reused packaging - making every piece a low-impact choice.

Is ethical accessories and jewellery a sustainable option for weddings?

Yes - ethical jewellery ensures fair labour, safe production practices, and responsible sourcing. It’s a sustainable option for nearly-weds who want their accessories to reflect both personal values and beautiful design.

What sustainable practices do you use in your accessory and jewellery making?

I make everything to order to reduce waste, use UK-made recycled wire, source through small ethical suppliers, reuse offcuts, and operate from a solar-powered home studio. Even my packaging is recycled and recyclable.

Are recycled materials used in your wedding accessories and jewellery?

Definitely. I regularly incorporate reworked vintage components, broken costume jewellery, or customer-supplied heirlooms. These recycled materials give each piece unique history and soul.

Can I include sentimental or pre-loved items in my wedding accessories or jewellery?

Yes - this is one of my favourite parts of what I do. I offer a bespoke service to reimagine inherited or sentimental jewellery into wearable, meaningful wedding accessories.

Where can I find eco friendly wedding accessories and jewellery in the UK?

You can shop directly through my website. I offer made-to-order pieces, one-of-a-kind designs, and bespoke commissions - all created with care, ethics, and sustainable materials from my Devon-based studio.

How is ethical sourcing different from using recycled materials?

Ethical sourcing refers to choosing materials from suppliers who prioritise fair wages, safe working conditions, and traceable supply chains. Recycled materials reduce waste by reusing what already exists. I combine both for maximum impact.

Why should I choose sustainable accessories and jewellery for my wedding?

Choosing sustainable jewellery reduces your carbon footprint, supports ethical businesses, and lets your accessories carry real meaning. It’s an elegant, conscious alternative to mass-produced fast fashion jewellery perfect for a green wedding.
